This site draws on the works below. Each is used under its licence, with the
changes described. The in-app panel "About the map & sources" repeats these
credits and lists the author and licence of every portrait on screen.

Changes: both sources were clipped to Central Europe, simplified, renamed and
merged by polity, and combined with each other and with Natural Earth by set
operations, which also derive shapes and whole map years the sources do not
contain (the partition zones, the war years, the years between the sources'
maps). Between historical-basemaps' own points the borders are drawn as a
smooth line through the same points, not a straight one. The resulting border
data is licensed CC BY-SA 4.0.
